A Life Transformed: Amy's Journey

In October 2021, “Amy,” a single mother of three, reached out to us after a friend we had helped recommended our support. Amy was navigating a tough chapter—dealing with a relationship breakdown, struggling with her mental health, and leaving full-time work, which caused financial hardship.

In 2020, she had been awarded the standard rate for Daily Care under Personal Independence Payment (PIP). But when the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) reviewed her case in November 2022, we stepped in to help. After waiting a year for her assessment, the DWP decided she no longer met the criteria, and her benefits were stopped. We requested a Mandatory Reconsideration, but the DWP stuck to their decision.

Knowing this decision was wrong, we supported Amy in appealing to a Tribunal. It was a long process, and she had to wait until October 2024 for her case to be heard. The Tribunal, independent of the DWP, consists of a judge, a medical professional, and a disability expert. After hearing how her disability affects her, they decided she should receive the enhanced award for both Daily Care and Mobility. The result? Amy was awarded £13,947 in backdated payments and £184.30 per week moving forward.

This decision has transformed her life. She can now apply for indefinite leave to remain for herself and her children—something she couldn’t afford before. Her children can take part in activities they once missed out on, and Amy plans to take driving lessons and buy a small car, giving her independence and saving on taxi costs caused by her anxiety about public transport.

This outcome has been LIFE CHANGING for our client!
